A short policy

I don’t keep
data on you.

The short version: TankTab does not collect, transmit, or store any data about you. The long version follows, in plain English, for completeness.

What lives on your device

The iOS app keeps the following on your phone, in standard iOS storage:

  • Your refuel log (when you tapped “I filled up here”, at which station, at which price).
  • Your saved or favourite stations.
  • Your settings (which fuel type, which “savings unit” you’ve picked, and so on).

None of this is sent anywhere. Delete the app and it’s gone.

What gets sent off your device

When you open the app, it asks the TankTab server: what are the current fuel prices near you? The server sends back the answer. That’s it.

Like every internet request, your phone has to share its IP address with the server briefly so the answer can find its way back. The server uses it only to limit how many requests can come from the same IP per minute — basic abuse protection. After that, the IP is forgotten. Nothing about you is stored.

No cookies. No tracking pixels. No advertising IDs. If you use CarPlay, the in-car map uses the same lookup.

What I never do

The one exception — Stripe

The home page has a donate button, hosted by Stripe. Loading the home page therefore makes one request to js.stripe.com, so Stripe sees your IP address. Stripe may also set a cookie of its own to make the button work.

That request only happens on the home page. The privacy page, the 404, and the rest of the site load no third-party resources.

If you tap the button, Stripe receives the information it needs to process the donation. That part is between you and Stripe — their privacy policy is the source of truth on what they do with it. TankTab itself never sees, stores, or processes the payment.

Your rights under the AU Privacy Act 1988

Under the AU Privacy Act 1988 you have the right to access and correct personal information held about you, and to ask for it to be deleted.

In TankTab’s case there is nothing to access, correct, or delete, because no personal information is held. If this ever changes (which won’t happen without this page being updated first), those rights still apply.

Updates to this policy

If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the date below will reflect the change. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
